Conducting business is permanently changeable today. Nobody, even the best specialist in making predictions, can assess appropriately what could take place in the future. That is why, while we are discussing long- term, evolutionary projects, we should remember about really important types of web project management – changing management.
There are many reasons why sponsors of a project need some alterations in its schedule, scope or even in goals. The biggest part of it has its causes outside a project – then we call it external determinants.
The most ordinary causes of this pattern are the following:
- Market environment – competitive products, focusing on opinion making bodies, changes of the needs of customers etc.
- Legal system – regulations which are changing (transnationally, nationally, locally…) etc.
- occurence of the newest solutions – technical development, research on discoveries, implementation of new tools etc.
- Changes in customers’ firm – restructuring, acquisition, financial issues etc.
- Social and political determinants – political depression, local communities’ strikes etc.
Obviously, these examples are only a part of the full register which is probably ever-lasting.
On the other hand, complications have their origins internally as often as outside a project. These causes are typically named internal. They have different contexts but we are able to divide them into some types:
- Errors in project planning – all of faults cause inappropriate suppositions, assignments, schedules, resources… Obviously, it might affect changes during operation only if we want to rich even a piece of accomplishment.
- Structural changes in a company – internal restructuring, modifications of tasks, changes in a board of managers and migration of employees can influence a project.
- Trouble with resources – lack of financial and human resources, machines, tools and even buildings do not have to be a result of inappropriate planning process but for instance of changing priorities in board of directors’ opinion.
- Human indicators – it is really important, and repeating in every project, determinant. It can concern managers, team members, suppliers and associates.
It is quite easy to deal with these both internal and external issues when a project team uses web project management tool which helps supervising project changes and evolution.
