We all know that kids can be challenged when it comes to cleaning, so start your youngster off right with kids furniture that’s quite easy to keep clean. When you are shopping for a kids bedroom set or playroom furniture it’s a terrific idea to consider furnishings built of wood. Wooden kids furniture is likely to be built solid and is commonly coated in a hardy stain that will keep every piece looking fresh and new for years. But don’t merely rely on the stain finish to keep the furniture looking good when you can do some things along the way to make sure that your child’s bed, dresser, nightstand and various other furnishings will remain gorgeous and scuff free.
Furniture Positioning and Accessorizing
Believe it or not, the positioning of your youngster’s furniture can help to keep things clean and looking beautiful. Try keeping wooden kids furniture away from direct sunlight to prevent fade spots from forming on the wooden frame. Stick furniture against walls and leave an open area in the middle of the room to encourage play time to transpire far away from the dressers and armoires, this will keep furniture free from unwanted scrapes and dings. One can also use accessories like doilies or material runners on the dresser or nightstand top to protect that spot from scratches. Yet another helpful tip is to line the bottom of lamps, alarm clocks and any additional table top accessory with felt, so that a child can move the objects all around without causing damage to the furnishings.
Weekly Cleaning Schedule
To keep the furniture fresh and new and keep your youngster’s room allergen free it’s a great idea to create a weekly cleaning schedule. The very best part about this is that you “mom” won’t be performing the cleaning. Use this opportunity to train your kid how to take care of her own things by putting a dust cloth in her small hands and showing her how to dust every furniture piece from top to bottom. After dusting, it will be time to remove any finger prints or smudges by giving your child a moist rag with a little bit of olive oil and white vinegar on it. Have her gently push the rag along the wood grain and soon the furniture will regain its original sheen beauty and look spotless. If you notice any major dings or scratches you can add one more step to the cleaning process by getting your youngster to color over the scratch with furniture markers that match the color of the finish. These markers could be ordered on the Internet or found at hardware stores.
When your child is finished cleaning make sure to stand back and praise the good job she’s done. With any luck, she’ll be happy to do it all again the very next week, so that her kids furniture set will stay gorgeous and sparkling through all its years of use.
