Christmas Ecards Are Now The New Tradition

The holidays are filled with traditions and for my family and me one of our favorite traditions is sending each other heart felt Christmas eCards. It is a tradition that is relatively new to our family unlike the practice of opening a single present on Christmas Eve that was picked by my mother from under the tree. And guess what? It was always Christmas pajamas. Whether it was reindeer, elves or even a snowman, we always wore some sort of festive nightwear, preferably fleece with feet, to bed the night before Christmas. Holidays are all about family traditions, from the expected to the down right hooky. And if they did not occur it would not feel right. Sending all of my family members, as well as all of my friends and co-workers (well, the ones I like) Christmas eCards is rapidly becoming one of my favorites.

Aside from the adorably annoying festive pajamas, another tradition growing up was going to Midnight Mass on Christmas Eve. It was the one time of year we brushed the dust off our church clothes, red or green velvet dresses or sports coats, and tried to act like we had been there all year long. My mother would talk to the priest like we were Sunday regulars while the priest just played along! He, along with all of the other people my mother considers her spiritual leaders, are also the lucky recipients of her well thought out and generally pretty creative Christmas e cards. I wonder how the new young priest would feel knowing he is considered one of her spiritual leaders along with her yoga instructor!

I am actually the one who turned my family onto the whole wide world of electronic greetings and they have pretty much replaced traditional cards for every holiday and event throughout the year. One day I received an electronic greeting from a friend and thought it was such a great idea that I rushed online to check it out. I found a site that allowed me to design Christmas eCards free for the first ten days so my pocket book was happy. The trial period was so wonderful for someone like me who lacks the ability to commit to anything without trying it out first. Thankfully I had found a service that benefited me as well as my friends and family. When I sit down to create my yearly Christmas E-cards, I know that I am going to have a few laughs. I really enjoy that I am able to personalize each card for each specific person on my list. There is nothing generic or repetitive about them. Because of that, the holidays are just a little bit sweeter. Well that and all of the Christmas shaped sugar cookies that I make! And eat!

Making free Christmas ecards was just the beginning of my love affair with electronic greetings. Once I sent one to my mother, she just had to know how to do it. I taught her and she was off running and boy was that annoying at first. I would get electronic greetings for Holidays that no one even knows about…like Happy Hug Your Dog Day! She was actually pretty excited about it all and subsequently forced my father to do it as well. I swear it rekindled something in their marriage because they act lovie dovie now. Some may say otherwise, but I hold true to the fact that the Christmas ecards were the cause.

While there is no photographic evidence of this, I may still wear my Christmas themed pajamas while I create my Christmas eCards. I am enjoying finding a way to blend the old traditions with the new traditions and so far so good. I love the holidays and I love that people seem a little bit kinder this time of year. Well, except for those people who are willing to rip your arm off to get the last toy … but they don’t count. It really is a special time of year and one that I find best enjoyed with an inbox full of Christmas eCards.
