Bluray is really taking off this Christmas in a big way at last!

By: Simon D Young

Recently with manufacturers of associate products like Amaray under pressure to manage the demand and producers such as Sony mopping up any spare capacity consumable and case suppliers are finding that in the last couple of months stocks are by now hard to come by when it comes to Blu-ray related movies and recordable media. Royal mail are not helping the situation as 100's of parcels are caught in limbo meaning a great deal of buyer disappointment and advanced levels of customer communication are required.

Nonetheless we feel that Blueray manufacturers are serious about this business this year! Take the time to ask yourself how lots of consumers truly realise how far superior the Blu-ray experiance is compared to HD DVD? In a investigation conducted by DVD-and-Media.com more than 1450 clients responded, of these 91% did not have the capability to play a Bluray discs but thought when High Definition DVD was compared to Blu-ray that the two formats would be of 'comparable quality' and sited the main motivation for not upgrading to the brand new format as "The asking price is currently too high", a number of people questioned sited 'Sky TV' as their reference example for their quality comparison - meaning that they assumed Blueray DVD was the same quality as Sky's HD performance which it clearly is far better!

From the contingent that owned a Blueray player 40% owned and chose to use a PlayStation console and factored into their purchase judgment the playback facility for Blu-ray when choosing the games console over the competition. With the current crop of Blueray players coming in at approximately the £95 mark they are becoming more inexpensive - but as with the early DVD player market chinese manufacturers have again 'missed the boat' by not dropping the price of the players an adequate amount and making the recordable disk format widely obtainable - perhaps we will see the £35 Blu-ray player in the next few months but in our judgment thats where it needs to be to see the sales numbers go through the roof. Media factories haven't helped the state of affairs with recordable blueray still approximately £2 a disc compared with DVD-R at under 15p the public are struggling to see the added benefit and its only the crop of must have the latest technology 'home cinema' guys that are ready to pay for the Blu-ray experience. This year and in particular the next couple of months we ought to see a lot of customers getting their hands on Blu-ray players so hopes are high for a massive surge in Blu-ray recordable disc in 2010.
